Admit It, You Wish These 90s Sitcom Spots Were Real!

90s sitcoms were known for their belly laughing jokes, wholesome moments and just overall feel-good TV. My personal favorite thing about 90s TV were the dope fictional lounges and clubs! Those fictional places provided an extra layer for characters to unwind and just be present in the moment. At one point in my childhood, I even thought they were real. Still to this very day, I wish they were real. Here’s a look at some of my personal favorite lounges/clubs from 90s TV!

The Peacock – The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air

The Peacock didn’t have much razzle dazzle to it; however, it stayed in my mind as a visual aid reference while I was touring colleges while in high school LOL!!! My favorite moment at the Peacock?? Easily Ashley’s “talent showcase” performance!!

The Den – Moesha

The Den made me wish we had a local hang out spot in High School (I understand why Mo fought hard to stop it from closing)!! What I loved about The Den, besides the high school vibes and the youthful atmosphere was how the kids loved Den owner Andell (R.I.P. Yvette Wilson). So many moments happened at the Den but the moments that stood out to me was Moesha’s 18th birthday party, when Andell’s college mate proposed to her, and the infamous talent show LOL!

The Pit – A Different World

Tying it in with The Peacock, this is how I envisioned what my college cafeteria/hangout spot would look like (A for effort McKendree LOL!). A place where you could do homework and hangout….all while grubbing on some of Mr. Gaines best eats!!! My favorite moments at The Pit includes when Piccolo and the crew paid Lena a visit, Lena and Ty confronting Dion for physically abusing Gina and Whitley & Dwayne’s going away party.

“Unknown Location” – Living Single

This is an interesting one! Up until the end of Season 3 of Living Single, the quartet of friends would hang out at a local spot. The problem is…..we never knew the name of this location!! I wonder if that was on purpose? Anywho, some iconic moments happened at this undisclosed location! When Synclaire, Regine and Max were over Khadijah and Alonzo displaying too much PDA, when Max met the young 18-year-old freshman (played by Terrence Howard) and of course the night Kyle seduced Max while singing Funny Valentines.

Nipsey’s – Martin

Man, I wouldn’t hear the end of it if I didn’t include arguably one of the best fictional lounges of all time!!  Oh, Nipsey’s had it all, talent shows, birthday parties, seasonal parties, dancing and some of the best food in Detroit! I still want some of Nipsey’s hot wings!! (Paaasss the chicken wings DAAAAAWWWG…R.I.P. Tommy). Gosh there are so many memorable moments at Nipsey’s. When Martin stole the potato skins, wings and curly fries, when Martin won the lottery, when Pam’s cousin did her talent show and the star-studded video clip from Martin’s birthday party!

Natalie’s – New York Undercover

I’m going to stand ten toes down behind this statement: “I saved the best for last”!! New York Undercover was a hidden gem that aired on FOX Network on Sunday nights (you knew it was almost time to go to bed when this show came on lol). What an amazing show! It was pretty much an upbeat twist to rival all “cop shows”. What I loved about New York Undercover was the jazzy nightclub spot Natalie’s. After a long and stressful day on the job, I thought it was pretty dope how they included this place to for JC and Torres to unwind. Why I chose this spot as my #1 pick?? The musical guests that performed there!! The last Andre Harrell was the music coordinator on the show, so this checks out! The performances were mesmerizing!! Some of my favorite guests includes Groove Theory. SWV, Brownstone, Gladys Knight, BB King, Boyz II Men, Luther Vandross, Silk, Brandy/Tevin Campbell, Bone Thugs-N-Harmony, and many more! The show is now streaming on Amazon Prime!!
